Houmous has fast become one of the nation’s favourite dips – in fact, arburtons recently found it to be one of the most popular food items us Brits are likely to take to a picnic. And while the classic version of the dip (which is essentially just chickpeas, tahini, garlic and lemon juice), is hard to beat, its vast popularity has got to have something to do with its ability to mix so well with other flavours, too. These days we don’t even bat an eyelid at the plethora of options available on the shelves: caramelised onion, red pepper, sweet chilli and beetroot are all viable houmous options.
