A real-life Squid Game reality show is coming and you can take part

After becoming Netflix‘s most-streamed show ever in 2021, Squid Game captured the nation – and the world – with its twisted premise of a game show where the phrase ‘fight to the death’ is taken quite literally.

The series saw hundreds of cash-strapped contestants compete in a series of children’s games for an eye-watering cash prize, but the stakes are utterly deadly (if you lost, you died). The last one standing is the winner.

Netflix recently announced that season two of Squid Game is underway, but that’s not the only Squid Game-related news we’re getting excited about this week.

The South Korean-made show has inspired a new reality TV series, in which 456 real life contestants can compete for a grand prize pot of £3.75 million (and we’re assuming with a lot less murder and psychological torment along the way).

Called Squid Game: The Challenge, Netflix has called the unscripted programme its ‘biggest ever social experiment’, where the winner of the show will leave with a ‘life-changing cash prize.’

If you think you have what it takes to win, applications are currently open to the public.

The casting page reads: ‘You’ve seen the drama, now it’s your chance to take part in Netflix’s biggest ever social experiment! This supersized unscripted show turns the scripted world of the drama into reality. Real-life players will be immersed in the iconic Squid Game universe and will never know what’s coming next. Here they’ll compete in a series of heart-stopping games in order to become the sole survivor and walk away with a life-changing cash prize.

‘With a fortune up for grabs, who will be an ally, who will you trust, and who will you betray in this ultimate test of character?’

Just so there’s no confusion, the page states that, ‘Win or lose, all players will leave unscathed. But if you win, you win big!’

To be eligible to take part, you must be at least 21 years old and speak English. To apply, simply fill out the online form along with a 1 minute video explaining why you want to take part, what your game plan would be and what you would do with the huge cash prize if you won. Filming will likely take place in early 2023.
