Keeping up with the latest nail art trends can be difficult, as there always seems to be a new colour, finish, or style to take over from the last. But the latest matte nails trend — that looks set to be hot for Autumn/Winter 2021 — is an old favourite that’s back again, and it’s super easy to achieve from home, even if you’re a bit of a novice.
While we all love a hi-shine mani, there’s something to be said about a matte finish, which is super chic and sophisticated. Matte nails are the way to go this season, with many of the hottest nail artists on Instagram such as Imarni, Betina Goldstein, and Sarah Bland showcasing the matte nails trend on their pages.
Luckily, unlike the usual complex nail art trends, this is a trend that’s exceptionally easy to achieve from home; you simply need to invest in either a matte topcoat (which transforms any nail polish into a velvety texture) or a matte coloured polish, such as Barry M’s velvet line. If you use a nail lamp and gel polishes, there are also topcoats for that too, such as the Mylee one that’s just £8.50 on ASOS.
If you’re handy with a dotting tool or little brush, this is also a finish that looks incredible with some fancy nail art; just take a look at nail artist’s Imarni’s take:
In terms of top tips for application, nail artist Michelle Humphrey (@NailsByMH) recently told Vogue: ‘When painting your matte topcoat, make sure you go right to the edges. If you miss any bits, you’ll end up with shiny patches.’ It really is as simple as that!
