Hyram Yarbro (of @skincarebyhyram) is a force to be reckoned with; to millennials and Gen Z-ers, the YouTuber is the holy grail of skincare experts, both personable and knowledgable in nature, with honesty in spades. So when he announced he would be partnering with trending affordable skincare brand The Inkey List earlier this year to create his own line, his legion of fans and followers could not have been happier.
Selfless by Hyram is a planet-friendly line that centres around some of the coolest ingredients in skincare and while his main audience consists of younger generations, the products he’s created have managed to maintain broad appeal for all age groups (even YOU’s beauty director recently sung the line’s praises). In particular, the Retinol & Rainbow Algae Repair Serum has flown off the virtual shelves, selling the equivalent of one tube a minute, according to the brand.
So why is it so popular? Well, as its name suggests, the product’s star ingredient is retinol, which many of us know is the gold-standard of anti-ageing. It’s also brilliant at treating acne, making it a must-have for skincare fans. This serum uses 2 per cent Encapsulated Retinol Complex (0.2 per cent retinol). It’s gentle on the skin, while effective at smoothing and evening out skin tone.
While retinol is the star of the show, the 1.5 per cent Rainbow Algae Complex is also a real winner. It combats hyper-pigmentation and works well with the 2 per cent Tranexamic Acid to target the appearance of dark spots.
So far, the product has been such a hit that it’s received a firm five star rating online. ‘Even though retinol is one of those ingredients that needs a little bit more time to deliver results, I have noticed a positive change in my skin in just a couple of uses,’ wrote one fan.
‘My skin texture has improved tremendously, it’s very soft to touch and this product also helps brighten my acne hyperpigmentations. I never experienced any sensitivity and with this being my first retinol product, I couldn’t have picked a better one!’
You can buy the retinol for £28 online now.
