In terms of chocolate, you just can’t beat a bar of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk. However, for those who keep a plant based diet which includes not eating dairy, finding good chocolate can be a slog, and Cadbury’s has always been out of the question — until now.
Yes, Cadbury is finally launching its first ever vegan chocolate bar, and we’re extremely excited to try it and see if it’s as good as it sounds. Taking inspiration from the original Dairy Milk bars, the brand’s Plant Bars will come in two excellent flavours: smooth chocolate and smooth chocolate with salted caramel pieces.
The innovative formula has been in the works for two years now, meaning this has been a real labour of love. The brand has substituted its usual milk for almond paste, which not only makes the bar vegan, but is said to give it a slightly nutty taste.
Speaking about the Plant Bars, Louise Stigant, UK managing director of Mondelēz International, Cadbury’s parent company, explained that the new development came after ‘increasing public appetite for plant-based alternatives.’
She added: ‘At Mondelez, evolving consumer demands have long informed our ambition to provide a wide range of products that work for everyone and the new Cadbury Plant Bar range is the latest stop on this journey.’
Ericka Durgahee, a marketing manager at the Vegan Society, who have approved the bars, also commented: ‘As we approach World Vegan Day on 1st November, the Vegan Society is thrilled that anyone who misses Cadbury chocolate as a vegan can now enjoy their favourite delicious chocolate bar without the use of animal products.’
Plant Bars, £2.50 each, available at Sainsbury’s from November
‘We know how hard Mondelez has worked to bring this bar to life and give more options to everyone. We look forward to trying them when they launch!’
Both of the bars will launch into Sainsbury’s stores in November 2021, and will be available from other supermarkets and retailers from January 2022. The Plant Bar will cost £2.50, so we recommend stocking up!
