So, it really is true – every trend comes back around eventually. Even UGGs.
Yep, you read that right. One of the most ubiquitous trends of the early-noughties, and one that we all thought we’d seen the back of, has returned, with celebs and fashion insiders alike adopting the sheepskin boots this winter.
Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, Hailey Bieber, Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Elsa Hosk have all been spotted out and about in UGGs, while stylish influencers including Monikh Dale, The Triplets and Georgina Lennon have also sported the suede footwear on Instagram.
Reports by Lyst have seen searches for the shoe brand rise considerably since late 2020, and the brand was already experiencing a boost in sales as early as last year, according to Vogue. However, the way that celebrities are wearing their UGG boots has changed from when they first hit our wardrobes.
The UGG has had a thoroughly modern makeover, with the new Ultra Mini Boot style reigning supreme. The extra-low rise style comes in a variety of colours of suede. However, if you still have fever dreams about the amount of rain water the footwear used to soak up, you’ll be pleased to hear there’s a leather option in black, and it’s quite the chic take.
Unlike in the noughties, mini UGG boots, which sit right on the ankle, are very on trend right now. This is in stark contrast to the longer versions that celebrities such as Kate Middleton used to wear to keep her feet warm with a pair of jeans and casual top.
You might be surprised to see just how many iterations of the classic UGG boot there now are since you last pined for a pair (back in 2005). The backless slipper versions look especially cosy – and have nearly 10,000 five-star ratings on Amazon Fashion.
With the rise and rise of athleisure – which has only been propelled by a new working from home culture – it’s not a surprise that a footwear choice as comfortable and cosy as UGGs have made a comeback.
But, as proven by the celebs (above) and influencers (below), the new generation of UGGs can be styled with more than just casualwear (although they do still work with athleisure and loungewear). The Ultra Mini Boot looks great with a bare leg, while backless styles work surprisingly well with wide leg trousers or jeans.
