Last summer we reported that a hotel in Torquay had been voted the world’s best B&B for the second year running and now it seems that the UK has taken the hint and is flocking to the coastal town in Devon with TripAdvisor revealing it to be the top trending staycation destination in the UK.
With a question mark still hanging over international travel, it’s no surprise that interest in staycations in the UK has soared for the second summer running. According to TripAdvisor’s summer travel index, searches for holidays in the UK soared by a whopping 384 per cent in April compared to the first week of January.
While searches for Torquay soared the most year-on-year of all UK destinations, the town was closely followed by Windermere in the Lake District and York in Yorkshire.
TripAdvisor also revealed that the most popular holiday week this summer is set to be 28 June and 26 July with 44 per cent of the UK planning to take a trip. Worth noting if you’re hoping to avoid the crowds!
