Adorable toddler receives letter from the Queen after dressing up as Her Majesty

Can you remember what you dressed up as for Halloween when you were a toddler? Let’s face it, it was probably just an excuse for our parents to put us in whatever funny outfit they wanted to. But after Katelyn Sutherland, a mother from USA, dressed her daughter up in a Queen costume for Halloween last year, she may not have expected to receive a special letter from the monarch herself.

Katelyn, who’s from Ohio, wrote a letter to Buckingham Palace which included a photo of her one-year-old daughter Jalayne. In the snap, Jalayne looks absolutely adorable dressed up as the Queen in a blue coat and matching hat. To accessorise the regal look, Jalayne wore a pearl necklace, white hair wig, nude tights and had a mini handbag to match her shoes. In fact, the mini monarch was also accompanied by two corgi dogs (of course).

Weeks after Halloween, Katelyn was amazed to receive a reply all the way from Windsor Castle. The Queen had asked her lady in waiting a write a touching letter to Katelyn and little Jalayne, which was sent on 9 December 2021.

It reads: ‘Dear Mr and Mrs Sutherland. The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter, and for the photograph you thoughtfully enclosed. Her Majesty thought it was kind of you to write to her, and the Queen was pleased to see the photograph of your daughter, Jalayne, in her splendid outfit.

‘Her Majesty hopes you all have a very Merry Christmas, and I am enclosing a little information about the Royal Pets, which Jalayne might like to have.’

Jalayne’s mum revealed the biggest inspiration for the outfit was ‘the fact that our dogs are our daughter’s best friends’.

‘We wanted to do something where they could all be included together. We are most definitely fans of the Royal family and truly admire how the Queen walks by faith,’ she continued.

It’s no surprise to learn the little one’s outfit was a total hit with trick-or-treaters and others celebrating Halloween.

‘While walking around on Halloween we received many, many compliments but my favourite reactions were when people bowed to her or did the royal wave and said, “Your Majesty!”‘

Now, that’s a costume you’ll never forget.
