This three-ingredient chocolate mousse recipe is going viral (and it doesn’t contain eggs or dairy)

The base of any chocolate mousse is typically eggs, chocolate and sugar – but now a new three-ingredient chocolate mousse recipe is taking the internet by storm that’s not only dairy-free, it’s actually completely vegan.

The genius concoction was shared on TikTok (home of dozens of super-simple viral recipes, including those five-ingredient peanut butter cookies), and have since racked up hundreds of likes from users impressed by the simplicity of the low-maintenance dessert.

@mama_mila_, the Australian-based brains behind the recipe, explains that the key to egg-free mousse success is a can of cold coconut cream, left in the fridge overnight to help it achieve a desirably thick consistency.

After that’s done, the dish takes just 30 seconds to whip up – you simply scoop out the cream at the top and throw out the water. Add 1/2 cup icing sugar, 1tbsp cocoa, and mix it all together using an electric whisk. The result is a light, fluffy chocolate mousse that the poster dubs ‘the best Friday night treat’.

Three-ingredient chocolate mousse recipe (with no eggs or dairy)

1 can of coconut cream, chilled in the fridge overnight
1/2 cup icing sugar
1 tbsp cocoa powder

1. Separate the cream from the water in the can, and discard the water.

2. Add the icing sugar and cocoa powder, and whisk until light and creamy.

‘This looks amazing – I am always looking for dairy and egg free recipes….thank you for this one,’ said one viewer of the clip, while another suggested that she could ‘use the [coconut] water in other dishes or smoothies’.
