It’s no secret that Meghan Markle loves a jacket dress. She’s worn variations of the style countless times, so much so that we now all want one too.
A genius piece of clothing, a jacket dress, which can sometimes take on the look of a trench coat or tuxedo jacket, gives a more formal and elegant look than a shirt dress, allowing the wearer to look smart and professional without being constricted to a trouser suit. The sleeveless crossover style Meghan is so fond of creates a flattering hourglass silhouette, which is further enhanced when teamed with a matching fabric belt.
Meghan has donned the dress style a number of times previously, such as on her and Prince Harry’s tour of New Zealand, to introduce their baby boy Archie to the world, in South Africa and at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games in Sydney, Australia.
It’s, therefore, no surprise that many a high street brand has attempted to recreate this favoured outfit of Meghan’s – last year Dorothy Perkin’s pulled off a rather similar-looking trench dress as the Banana Republic one she wore in South Africa (below).
And now H&M has produced a similar style dress for just £34.99. With the same wrap-over silhouette, V-neck collar detailing, above-knee length and sleeveless style, not to mention the similar light beige colour, we’d say this a pretty good shot at getting a slice of Meghan’s style for a fraction of the price.
Rather than a full tie-around belt, the H&M jacket dress has a short side belt that you can use to cinch in to create a soft hourglass silhouette. Made from a linen-blend and also available in black, this would be a great spring and summer dress and ideal for when you head back to the office.
