Steph McGovern responds to Strictly Come Dancing rumours

It might only be June but rumours are already starting to swirl around who might be taking part in this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing, and one name that has been cropping up is TV presenter Steph McGovern.

On her daily lunchtime Channel 4 show, Steph’s Packed Lunch, this week Steph addressed the rumours she’s set to star in this year’s Strictly line-up with the rather cryptic line: ‘Never say never.’

With former Strictly professional dancer-turned-judge, Anton Du Beke, and last year’s semi-finalist, John Whaite, both regulars on Steph’s Packed Lunch, she’s in good company if she wants to be encouraged to give it a go.

However, it seems Anton wasn’t too pleased with Steph’s comments: ‘If you did Strictly Come Dancing now, after me asking you to dance it with me for about 12 years and you saying no, now that you’d dance it with one of the young, firm boys… I’d be your worst judge ever,’ he said.

To which Steph replied: ‘You see, the thing is, that’s what’s holding me back… I would worry you’d be too compromised because you’d want to give me 10 all the time.’

Addressing the origin of the rumours, she said: ‘It is funny. These rumours in the paper, you do wonder where they come from. Although I’ve been trying to get it out of Anton who’s going to be on it this year and he’s like “No, I’m not telling you!”‘

Fellow regular on the show, Denise van Outen, tried one last time to get an exclusive out of Steph, asking: ‘Are we watching this space then, Steph?’ To which Steph applied her best poker face and said, ‘Never say never.’

So, while Steph didn’t confirm the rumours, if you read between the lines she certainly didn’t deny them either. We’ll be watching this space!
