Fashion director Shelly Vella in the green room with Riley Studio

Every week fashion director Shelly Vella (@shellyvella) will be giving a high five to brands who are slowing the pace of fashion down whilst still delivering on beautiful quality and style. This week we check out what’s on the rail at Riley Studio.

A long-time fan of their effortlessly simple pieces, I’m really loving the latest launch – ‘Collection 06’, which celebrates that desire for stylish comfort born out of lockdown. The range features relaxed must-haves in organic cotton, linen and recycled knitwear. These are the type of clothes that eschew trends but always stay in fashion, that you’ll love wearing and can even share with your partner. An oversized cardigan or shirt…no problem, cute long line shorts for work (tick). And if you are in the market for the softest of hoodies – look no further.

Why do I love Riley Studio? Because everything they do and make is carefully considered, it’s fully traceable through the supply chain and their repair and recycle programmes mean there is absolutely no green-washing.

What’s the story behind the brand?

Founded in 2019, Riley Studio is on a mission to turn the fashion industry on its head and show that sustainability and style can be synonymous. We set out to create wardrobe staples that are kind to people and the planet.

Three words that sum the brand up?

Contemporary, Innovative, Gender-free

What does ‘sustainable fashion’ mean to you?

Our focus is on creating a circular fashion future, so for us, it’s all about working towards this goal. We have a saying – ‘reduce the waste, slow the pace’ – which really epitomises sustainable fashion for us.

What sustainable, eco-conscious processes do you have in place?

We have many! One of our most important is our Traceability document that is for every product, so we can try and identify every single stage the garment goes through. For us, it’s impossible to build a circular business without traceability.

What has been your biggest highlight as a brand?

Winning the Eco-Age brandmark award. And our upcoming Little Riley Studio launch!

If it’s not too nosy, what is your bestselling product?

Our Recycled Cotton Human Kind Sweatshirt has been our best selling product since the Autumn. It’s a super soft jersey fleece crafted from recycled cotton and plastic bottles and because the style is oversized and slouchy it’s been particularly popular for our various lockdowns! We have launched the same style in a new Off White for the summer which we think will be really popular too.
