This is how Mary Berry apparently inspired Prince Louis’s first words

Private photoshoots and Buckingham Palace balconies aside, we haven’t seen much of Prince William and Kate’s youngest son, Prince Louis, since he joined the family in April 2018. But now the Duchess of Cambridge has shared a new anecdote about her third-born that gives us a glimpse of insight into his personality – and it’s seriously cute.

Speaking to Mary Berry while filming A Berry Royal Christmas, the upcoming festive special which sees the royals prepare festive recipes with the star to support charitable causes, Kate revealed that the cook had made a big impression on little Louis already.

‘One of Louis’ first words was Mary, because right at his height are all my cooking books in the kitchen bookshelf,’ Kate explained.

‘And children are really fascinated by faces, and your faces are all over your cooking books and he would say “That’s Mary Berry”… so he would definitely recognise you if he saw you today.’

However, Louis isn’t the only Berry fan in the family – Kate also revealed that all of her children get involved in making Mary’s pizza recipe, and that they all love cooking together, adding that it’s a great opportunity ‘for them to be creative, [and] for them to try and be as independent as possible with it.’

This weekend, ahead of the show airing on Monday 16 December, Mary shared some of her own exclusive behind-the-scenes secrets with YOU Magazine, including another adorable Louis anecdote.

‘We made a chocolate and beetroot cake inspired by her telling me that Prince Louis absolutely loves beetroot, which isn’t the most obvious thing for a young child to like,’ she said.

‘I was absolutely free to create any recipe I wanted. I was a little nervous at first but as soon as I saw their huge smiles that melted away.’

A Berry Royal Christmas will air on Monday 16 December at 8.30pm on BBC One
