Velvet Teddy has been one of (if not the most popular) Mac lipsticks for years, but it looks like it’s got some hot new competition from… Primark. Yep, the popular high street retailer apparently has an exact dupe of the product, only with a very significant price difference.
For those who aren’t familiar with Velvet Teddy, the matte, deep-tone beige lipstick is the perfect shade of nude, and became a huge hit among beauty lovers a few years ago when it was revealed that it was Kylie Jenner’s go-to everyday shade.
However, priced at £17.50, it can have a significant impact on your bank balance if you’re a regular user, which is why you’ll be happy to know that Primark’s alternative will only set you back £2.50 – yes, really!
You Do You Babe lipstick, £2.50, Primark
You Do You, Babe is a shade from Primark’s Miss Gloria x Primark lipstick range, which encompasses four flattering new colours. The similarity between the bargain stick and the more expensive Mac version was first reported by The Mirror, who also confirmed that the lipsticks are already in stores across the UK and Ireland (where Primark is known as Penneys).

However, it’s not the first time that Primark has wowed make-up lovers with a covetable Velvet Teddy alternative. In July last year, a social media went viral after an eagle-eyed Twitter user found another affordable option and very kindly shared it with the world.
Becca McGonigle, otherwise known as our new beauty hero, posted the lipstick by Golden Rose, Primark’s in-house beauty range, revealing that the shade number 74 was almost an exact match to Velvet Teddy.
She tweeted: ‘Any velvet teddy wearers, ‘golden rose’ lipsticks from primark number 74 is actual the exact same n lasts longer n is like £2 get involved rt x’

Her tweet quickly racked up thousands of likes and retweets, with people praising her for helping them save £15.50 with the dupe. And while it is hard to let go of the iconic Velvet Teddy, it’s nice to know that there’s a more affordable and just as gorgeous shade out there for when we need to save some cash.
