As of today, we hereby declare Christmas officially open. Why? Pret just launched its Christmas menu. And before you start getting all bah humbug on us thinking that you won’t be able to taste any of it thanks to the UK’s second lockdown, think again: Pret stores are remaining open for takeaway and delivery throughout lockdown and they’ve even expanded the number of stores that offer delivery during this time. Rejoice!
The 2020 festive menu at Pret welcomes back tried and tested old favourites as well as a few new sparkly additions to the hot food and vegan ranges. First off, let us confirm that Pret’s Christmas Lunch sandwich, which is craved by customers (including ourselves) all year round, is back.
Thick slices of British turkey with port & orange cranberry sauce, herby pork stuffing and baby spinach leaves, topped off with free-range mayo and crispy onions, available as a sandwich and baguette. Simply deeeelicious.
Two new additions in the meat-eating department include a Pigs in Blankets Pot – Lincolnshire sausages wrapped in streaky bacon served in a pot – and a Pigs in Blanket Hot Roll – the Christmas classic on a layer of caramelised onion chutney finished with a dab of mustard mayo, all in a crusty roll.
Then, there are three vegan offerings on the Pret Christmas menu this year: the Vegan Christmas Nut Roast Sandwich (roasted butternut squash, peppery rocket and a super nutty ‘Christmas pesto’ served with a spoonful of vegan sage mayo, crispy onions and caramelised pecans); the Vegan Christmas Lunch Baguette (shredded oyster mushrooms with port & orange cranberry sauce, sage & pumpkin seed stuffing and baby spinach, finished with a sprinkling of crispy onions and a dollop of vegan sage mayo); and a Vegan Christmas Lunch Hot Roll (a layer of port & orange cranberry sauce topped with shredded oyster mushrooms, sage & pumpkin seed stuffing and crispy onions, topped with vegan sage mayo and served in a crusty white roll).
Rounding out the savoury festive food offering is the Brie, Pistachio & Cranberry and Smoked Salmon, Soft Cheese & Dill baguettes.
Moving onto sweet treats, get ready to meet Melvin, Pret’s Melting Gingerbread Snowman; Christmas Tiffin made with gingerbread biscuit, cranberries, chocolate and chopped pistachios; the Pret Mince Pie (it’s accidentally vegan and only 99p with any hot drink); and a Vegan Hazelnut & Caramel Brownie. YUM.
And what to wash it all down with? Go for one of Pret’s brand new festive hot drinks, all served in limited edition Christmas takeaway cups. There’s the classic Gingerbread Latte, the Salted Caramel Latte, and, most excitingly, a S’mores Hot Chocolate, which combines biscuit-flavoured syrup with Pret’s indulgent hot chocolate and is topped with whipped cream, a sprinkling of dark chocolate curls and Pret’s Christmas mascot, Melvin, the marshmallow-headed snowman. All drinks are available with the YourPret Barista coffee subscription.
As always, each Christmas sandwich sold we see a 50p donation sent to the Pret Foundation, which helps break the cycle of homelessness.
Head to your local Pret to taste the new menu from today, or order for delivery through Pret or third-party delivery partners Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats. Bear in mind that for the first three weeks delivery of Pret’s Christmas Lunch is exclusive to Deliveroo.
