Are you the type of person who always chooses the cheese course over a pudding? Feast your eyes on this: a culinary genius has made a cheeseboard cheesecake (yes, you did read that correctly) that would satisfy any savoury tooth.
Painter-decorator turned cheesecake connoisseur Joe Moruzzi is the brains behind Pleesecakes, a cheesecake company that produces towering sweet creations loved by the likes of Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield, Joe Wicks and Vogue Williams – and now he’s turned his hand to the other end of the culinary spectrum.
Teaming up with balsamic vinegar Mazzetti, Moruzzi has produced a colossal cheeseboard cheesecake boasting six different types of cheese – stilton, red leicester, parmesan, wensleydale with cranberries, garlic and herb soft cheese and goats cheese – plus additional accompaniments like celery, grapes, figs walnuts, pickled onions, gherkins and chutney.
The cake is then topped off with a drizzle of the vinegar for the ultimate tangy hit. As for the base, which is usually made of sugary or oaty biscuits? It’s crushed-up cream crackers. Genius.
The full-size cheesecake, which weighs almost a kilogram and stands at nine inches tall, will set you back £55, but there’s also a mini version for just £7.50 (no, we won’t judge you if you eat either of them in a solo sitting).
And if you’re not keen on goats cheese or can’t stand stilton? Because they’re made to order, the cheesecakes can be customised to your tastes – simply share your preference at the checkout and the Pleesecakes team will do their best to match your request.
The limited edition Mazzetti Savoury Pleesecake is now available to purchase online at www.pleesecakes.com or through Selfridge’s London concierge service, until the end of December 2018.
