There’s nothing like a fruity rum punch at a sunny BBQ – a drink that is truly the life of the party. We call this The Silent Killer. Initially, it tastes like a soft drink; however, the rum is lurking in there, ready to get you later – so please drink responsibly.
250ml white rum
150ml dark or coconut rum
200ml strawberry-flavoured syrup (or you can use grenadine)
250ml pineapple juice
250ml orange juice
100ml fresh lime juice (from 4 limes)
pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
dash of Angostura bitters (optional)
slices of orange, pineapple and lime, to finish
1. Pour all the punch ingredients into a large pitcher. Stir, add the crushed ice and fruit slices to finish, and sip pon it!
Add these to the mix
BLUE ELECTRIC-BOLT PUNCH
Combine 200ml white rum, 150ml Blue Curaçao, 150ml coconut rum, 600ml lemonade and 150ml lime juice (from 5-6 limes). Add crushed ice and finish with lime wedges and a handful of blueberries.
GINGER SPICE-IT-UP PUNCH
Combine 200ml white rum, 200ml dark rum, 600ml ginger beer or ale, 1 tsp ground mixed spice and 100ml lime or lemon juice, or a mixture. Add crushed ice and finish with slices of lemon and lime.
MANGO AND PASSIONFRUIT TUN-UP PUNCH
Combine 250ml white rum, 150ml dark rum, 250ml mango juice, 250ml orange juice, 2 passion fruit (pulp scooped out) and 200ml cherry-flavoured syrup. Add crushed ice and finish with slices of lime, mango and orange.
