We don’t know about you, but the winter period is definitely when we need Netflix the most. Cold, dark evenings make for great TV binge sessions, not to mention the many Netflix Original Christmas movies we’re eagerly awaiting. But sadly, not all of us will be able to indulge in our favourite streaming service this Christmas – and not because you haven’t paid your bill.
It has been announced that Netflix will no longer work on certain Samsung Smart TVs from as soon as next month, meaning your days of watching your favourite dramas could be numbered.
Samsung has explained that the unfortunate news will only affect those who have an old Smart TV as these cannot be updated to fit Netflix’s new standards, meaning the streaming app will no longer work.
A statement shared on the company’s website revealed that customers with this old version will only have until 1st December to enjoy Netflix before the new standards are implemented and it stops working on their TVs.
‘Due to technical limitations, Netflix will no longer be supported on some devices beginning on 1 December 2019,’ the update read. ‘Some older Samsung smart TVs are affected by this change.’
We know, we know – what else are you meant to do during hibernation season? Luckily, this doesn’t mean you can’t watch Netflix on your TV at all – there are a few loopholes.
For example, if you have other devices such a games console, streaming media player or set-top box then fear not. If set up to your smart TV (or, in fact, any TV), these can all be used to gain access to Netflix. In fact, there is a full list of devices on the streaming service’s website that can be used as alternatives.
However, if you happen to have none of them, then we’re afraid your Netflix days as you know them may well be over. But don’t worry, you’ll still have all the other equally amazing streaming services including Now TV, Amazon Prime and the brand new Apple TV too, so you certainly won’t be short of entertainment.
