It’s no secret that the coronavirus pandemic and ensuing lockdown have affected pretty much every aspect of our lives. Not least our beauty routines, it seems, as the most searched for beauty product of 2020 so far has been revealed, and it’s very telling about where we’re all at with our current hair situations.
According to research by The Cosmetify Index, the product we’ve all been clamouring to get our hands on the most so far this year is the L’Oreal Paris Magic Retouch Instant Root Concealer Spray.
It’s not surprising – when we went into lockdown, people with dyed hair were left wondering what they were going to do with their growing roots until they could get back in a salon chair. Root concealers are a handy DIY method to covering up dark roots and peeking greys without having to get messy with home box dyes.
There are numerous root concealer products on the market, but L’Oreal’s version has garnered over 600 5 star reviews on Amazon alone. Costing just £5.99 and ranging from light blonde to dark brown and black, a few spritzes will quickly and easily cover up roots until your next wash. It’s even Eva Longoria‘s go-to product for covering up greys at the moment.
So what else have we been stocking up our beauty cabinets with so far this year? Unsurprisingly, the second most searched for product is the Cuticura Anti Bacterial Hand Gel. There was a brief shortage of hand sanitisers at the beginning of the pandemic when stories of people stockpiling hundreds of bottles made headlines, so it’s no wonder this took second place – it’s affordable, handbag-sized, smells nice and, most importantly, available to buy now.
The product that nabbed third place is The Ordinary Serum Foundation. While in lockdown, people may not want to wear their normal expensive foundations everyday just stay at home, so swapping to a much cheaper option is a smart move. It’s also lightweight – who wants to feel like they’re caked in make up for only their cat to witness the results? – and, thanks to its high quality finish, is well on its way to gaining cult status.
Taking fourth place was the Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte’s Magic Cream – not surprising as its award-winning formula is known for its softening, smoothing and hydrating effects on lacklustre skin, something many of us have suffered from during lockdown (thanks stress). And completing the top five was the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation Makeup SPF10 – a cult beauty product in its own right, lockdown or not.
