There are many things to love about budget supermarket store Lidl. The low prices and value-for-money products are one thing, but the ‘Middle of Lidl’ selection of goodies is really something to be enjoyed. During summer, shoppers were spoilt with bargain buys like a trendy rattan furniture set and a two-in-one garden table and ice bucket.
Now, Lidl has revealed it is stocking two of its bestselling red wine bottles in a huge 1.5 litre size – all for the purse-friendly price of £9.99 each. The magnum wines include a Spanish Baturrica Gran Reserva and Heredad Ducel Tempranillo, which are perfect for sharing with friends and family this autumn.
The 75cl version of Spanish Baturrica Gran Reserva has been named Lidl’s best red wine under £5, so to get it in a larger size for only £5 more, sounds like a solid deal.
Both wines have notes of rich black fruits and smooth rounded characters – ideal for enjoying during the chillier months. Lidl suggest pairing the wines with hearty meals, like stews and pies.

Lidl’s Master of Wine, Richard Bampfield, said: ‘Consistently one of the favourite wines at the tastings I present is the Baturrica Gran Reserva, and if there is a better value red at under £5 in the country, I have yet to find it. And if one bottle is good, then surely a magnum is doubly good?!’
The 1.5 litre bottles of red wine can be found in Lidl stores nationwide now, while stocks last. But if you would rather have a nosey at what else Lidl has on offer, you can check out their wine collection online. The supermarket won the Wotwine award for Wine Retailer of the Year for the third year running in 2020, so you’ll definitely find something special.
