Goodbye ironing with the return of the Lidl garment steamer

Sick of ironing? Us too, especially in the summer heat. Unfortunately, bar leaving the house in creased clothes (which obviously, we sometimes do), ironing clothes is a necessary evil of everyday life.

However, there is an easier, less time consuming and less labour intensive way to get creases out of clothes, and that’s steaming them. Garment steamers are expensive though, aren’t they? Well, not Lidl’s. That’s right, the budget supermarket has brought its popular garment steamer back in stock and it costs a wonderfully low £17.99.

Hitting the ‘Middle of Lidl’ aisle from Sunday 7 August, the time-saving gadget has received rave reviews on social media. On the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, one person wrote that it gets their ‘ironing done in half the time,’ while another said: ‘I adore it. There are certain things for which I get the iron out – but since getting the steamer, they are few and far between.’

Another happy shopper wrote: ‘Just wow, I iron nearly everything including my sons football kits, tracksuits and other thin materials that I always worry I will burn… This steamer is fantastic on these but also on cotton, jeans, t shirts with printed logos on (I constantly smudge these with the iron), the works.’

Available in yellow and blue, the handheld Lidl garment steamer is even compact enough to be stowed away in hand luggage for holidays, too, banishing crumpled holiday clothes for good.

Compared to leading garment steamer brands – such as Steamery’s handheld steamers which start at £60 – the Lidl garment steamer is a savvy buy. Elsewhere on the market, you can also pick up a handheld garment steamer at B&M for £20, which was also mentioned on the Facebook group: ‘I got one from B&M for the same price… so much easier than ironing and perfect for my little girls school blazer to freshen it up.’
