It’s nearly time to start decking the halls for Christmas, and one place we always love to head to shop for festive decorations is John Lewis.
The high street retailer is known for going all out at Christmas time, with a huge array of baubles, garlands, wreaths and table decorations to choose from.
One of the best thing about John Lewis’s festive collection is that you don’t have to break the bank, with plenty of Christmas tree decorations starting at £5. In fact, John Lewis told us that one of its bestsellers this year is a £8 item, the yellow submarine bauble, and after being out of stock online for weeks, there’s just been a new drop on the John Lewis website.
It’s not exactly the most traditional decoration, but then neither are the other two eye-catching baubles which make up the top three. One of them is a tiny glass gin decanter, which costs £8, and the other is a balloon dog bauble, available in gold or electric blue, which is currently sold out online but is available in plenty of stores.
Aside from baubles, what else is selling well at John Lewis? “Another bestseller is our sprays for trees, these decorative branches create a new shape to the tree and can add a new texture from feather like fronds to jewel encrusted branches” says Lisa Cherry, Christmas Lead Buyer at John Lewis.
“Customers are looking for the wow factor this year and so we have seen statement pieces flying off the shelves. They actually make for really easy decorating as they can be popped by the stairs, on the table or in the tree and feel enough on their own. Our Blush Coast Whale decoration is nearly a metre long and has proved really popular.”
As for colour schemes, Lisa told us that while traditional gold and red remain popular, shoppers are being more experimental with colours such as neon pink and turquoise.
One wreath in particular has proven popular, selling out quickly when it was first released. The Technicolour Supernature Star and Berry wreath is a real showstopper, trimmed with rainbow glitter berries and sparkling stars. This eye-catching wreath really appeals to the current trend for vibrant, rainbow-inspired Christmas decor.
Overall it seems that after last year’s rather grim Christmas, we’re all keen to add the fun to our homes this festive season – and of course, being able to share our homes and traditions with our loved ones again will be the biggest treat of all.
