Padded shoulder t-shirts were everywhere last year, dominating the spring summer catwalks and inspiring an army of ‘muscle tees’ on the high street.
The style is most synonymous with the ‘power shoulder’ of the 1980s (think: Joan Collins in Dynasty; Melanie Griffith in Working Girl; Thatcher in, well, the Commons), but 2020 saw the modern revival of the padded shoulder that took the fashion industry by storm.
Particularly in the summer, shoulder pads were added to vests and tees and most notably kicked off by influencer-loved label Frankie Shop with their , which spawned a flurry of shoulder-pad outfits on Instagram.
And now, H&M has launched a winter take on the padded shoulder trend, adding the accent to sweatshirts as well as tees, if you want to rock a power shoulder while keeping your arms warm!
Made from a soft sweatshirt fabric using cotton and recycled polyester blend, the round-necked top features defined padded shoulders, long sleeves and ribbing around the neckline, cuffs and hem. Style with the matching joggers to add a fun update to your working-from-home wardrobe, or tuck into tailored trousers and chunky boots for a real power look.
Thinking about your summer wardrobe? H&M has also just dropped a new shoulder-pad t-shirt which was made for adding a laidback retro edge to any outfit. The straight-style tee comes in a cotton jersey fabric with a ribbed trim around the neckline, lightly padded shoulders and wide sleeves.
