The musical, which is based on the life of circus magnate PT Barnum, became a huge phenomenon following its release in late 2017. From being crowned the third-highest grossing musical in history, to taking home the award for Original Motion Picture Soundtrack at this year’s Grammys, it’s safe to say the world fell in love with The Greatest Showman and its star-studded cast.

Luckily, we get to see them all again as the film’s director, Michael Gracey, has confirmed that a sequel is on its way.

During a trip to London last week to support Hugh Jackman (who plays the leading role of PT Barnum) at the BRITs, Gracey told The Sun: ‘When a movie becomes as big a success as this, it’s only natural there is demand for a sequel. So those discussions have started and we are working on one right now.’

Rumours of a sequel have been brewing for a while, so now that the news has officially been confirmed, we can finally get excited. After all, we were warned that there will ‘never be enough’ of The Greatest Showman.

Talking about the production of the first film, which stars Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya and Keala Settle, Gracey explained: ‘There were huge doubts about it for a very long time and some backers withdrew their money.’

However, it clearly worked out. Not only did the film become a box office hit but the soundtrack for The Greatest Showman topped music charts around the world for months on end. Same again for the sequel? We’ll find out soon.
