Shortly after the news that IKEA is launching replacement furniture parts in a bid to tackle the ‘fast homeware’ problem, we have more sustainable interiors news, this time from DFS.

Edinburgh Weave Grand Sofa, £1,399 (was £1,499), DFS
Known for their well-priced sofas, DFS has teamed up with Grand Designs to produce a range of sofas that are as sustainable as they are stylish. The BAFTA-winning Channel 4 television programme has long been associated with groundbreaking, innovative and aspirational design, so it’s only right that when putting their name to a range of sofas, the style credentials shine through as much as the ambition to tackle one of the world’s biggest problems right now: our throwaway culture that is resulting in growing landfills.

Farnham Velvet Right Hand Facing Grand Chaise Sofa, £1,999 (was £2,199), DFS
‘Each aspect of the range has been carefully considered for its ability to reduce the impact on our environment and is either made of recycled materials, comes from sustainable sources, or is more easily recycled at the end of its life as a sofa,’ reads a press release.

Tenby Velvet Left Hand Facing Arm 2 Piece Large Corner Group, £2,499 (was £2,599), DFS
As such, each piece in the Grand Designs x DFS range features fabrics made from recycled polyester yarns, and the back and scatter cushions are filled with 100 per cent recycled polyfibres, which are made from plastic bottles. Meanwhile, each seat cushion’s fibre filling is made using 50 per cent recycled plastic (that’s approximately 200 recycled plastic bottles in each one). Additionally, the sofas feature handmade frames crafted from sustainable FSC timber, 100 per cent recyclable springs and recyclable packaging.

Kent Velvet 4 Seater Sofa, £1,299 (was £1,399), DFS
As for the designs, there are four ranges to choose from: Kent, Edinburgh, Tenby and Farnham, as well as a stylish accent chair dubbed the Padstowe. Each features clean, contemporary lines in sumptuous fabrics, with a luxuriously deep seat for maximum comfort.
With prices starting from £449, each piece within the four ranges is available in a choice of three fabrics (chenille, velvet and weave) and eight colours, from chic neutrals such as mink and light grey to gloriously rich tones of mustard and terracotta, so your sofa will be as personal to you as you like.
