Glossier just launched its first ever retinol and it’s suitable for all skin types

Retinol (a derivative of vitamin A) is a gold standard ingredient that’s practically unbeatable in the world of anti-ageing, as well as its effectiveness in tackling acne. But if we’re being totally honest, the world of retinoids can be a minefield, especially if you’re new to it. Luckily, Glossier is here to solve all our retinol woes (as they have done previously in all other realms of beauty) with their first ever formula that’s designed to simplify retinol use.

The formulation of the Glossier Universal Pro-Retinol sounds like a complete winner. The product promises to honour the main benefits of retinol, from improving the appearance of fine lines and pores, to helping blemishes and targeting uneven skin tone and texture. It uses a plant-based power complex of 0.5 per cent Retinyl Sunflowerate, which is fairly new in the world of retinoids and is beloved for being less irritating towards skin that’s on the sensitive side.

For this reason, Glossier’s retinol may be the product you’ve been waiting for; if you’ve tried other retinols before and experienced dryness, breakouts or other side effects, your skin may just crave a friendlier formula. As well as the retinol complex, the Universal Pro-Retinol has a creamy texture that features a whole host of plant extracts (such as Mondo Root Grass) and humectants (like Glycerin) to balance the effects of vitamin A and keep skin nourished.

Glossier’s elixir is designed to be used in the evening (as most retinols are). The brand suggests smoothing a pea-sized pump over freshly cleansed and patted-dry skin, right before applying moisturiser. Start with one or two nights per week, and build up to every night as long as you don’t experience peeling or irritation. It’s important to remember that retinol increases sun sensitivity, so wearing an SPF the next day is absolutely essential.

In a four week clinical trial of Glossier’s Universal Pro-Retinol, 84 per cent said wrinkles were visibly improved, and 98 per cent said blemishes looked improved and skin looked overall clearer. 100 per cent of the users said their skin looked visibly more radiant and less dull – so you know it’s well worth a try!

The new Glossier retinol product costs £30 and is available to buy now at glossier.com.
