If the recent slew of reality dating shows is anything to go by, we’re a nation obsessed with love. Or perhaps other people’s dating mishaps, but it’s a fine line.
Following the roaring success of Netflix’s Love is Blind and hot on the heels of ITV’s winter version of Love Island, Channel 4 have come up with a brand new dating show concept – and it looks set to be just as compelling.
The quirkily-named Five Guys A Week initially had our stomachs hoping for a new diet show touting the idea that one Five Guys meal a week is the secret key to optimum health, but the actual premise is perhaps even more bizarre than that theory.
Here’s how it will work: each week a different woman invites five men to live with her in her house, all at the same time. While her potential matches compete for her affections as trial live-in boyfriends, day by day the woman will eliminate one of them, leaving one man left standing at the end.
The result? An antidote to traditional dating shows, offering the ultimate test of romance, compatibility and stamina via the most intense week-long six-way date anyone has ever been on – and a TV show so ridiculous we think it might just be brilliant.
Just like Channel 4’s First Dates, the trailer shows contestants of varying ages, which will make the show a breath of fresh air compared to the eternally youthful ages that appear on other popular dating shows, such as Love Island.
If you’re invested as we are already, you’ll be pleased to hear that you don’t have long to wait before your binge watch can begin. Five Guys A Week will air on Tuesdays from 10th March at 9.15pm on Channel 4. We’ve already got the popcorn ready.
