We all want to make the most of our travel experiences and sometimes, it’s hard to fit everything on our growing bucket lists (thanks for that, Instagram) into our busy schedules. However, Trip Advisor has just made things a little bit easier for us by listing the travel experiences we simply cannot afford to miss when visiting new cities around the world.
Whether you’re into popular sightseeing tours, gastronomical activities or simply want to experience new cultures, the travel site has pinned down the top ten best rated things to do during your travels, as voted by those who have actually been there, done it. The ten experiences were revealed as the winners of Trip Advisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards, and they’ve made us want to book our next holiday pronto. Here they are from 1 to 10.
1. A Cooking Class and Market Tour in Florence
The best rated travel experience in the world is in none other than Italy, according to Trip Advisor. The beautiful city of Florence came out on top for its famous cooking class and market tour.
The experience kicks off with a tour around a local market in Florence where you pick your fresh ingredients before heading to a gorgeous Tuscan townhouse to whip up a delicious four course Italian meal. Yum!
2. Berlin Bike Tour
It’s been said before and we’ll say it again, there is no better way to see a city than via a good bike tour – hence this bike ride around the German capital being ranked the second best travel experience by Trip Advisor.
This chosen tour is four and a half hours long and covers all of the historic sites the city is known for – from the famous Berlin Wall to Checkpoint Charlie and Bradenburg Gate.
3. New York In One Day Tour
Obviously the list would be incomplete without a nod to the Big Apple. It is the concrete jungle where dreams are made of after all, and while it might sound overwhelming to tour the entire city in one day, it can be done. And apparently, very well, as this has been voted the third best travel experience in the world.
The popular bus tour shows visitors the biggest and best sites in New York including Times Square, the Empire State building, the 9/11 memorial, Wall Street, Central Park and many more. But that’s not all. It then moves onto a boat sailing down the Hudson river passing Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. Sign us up!
4. Sydney Bridge Climb
Believe it or not, people actually climb the famous harbour bridge in Sydney. And as scary as it may seem at first, the experience has become a huge hit amongst tourist who visit the city, so much so that the Sydney Bridge Clime has been placed at number four on this list.
If you live for a killer view, this is a must-do experience. It typically takes between one and half to three hours, depending on individuals.
5. Vatican VIP Experience
It looks like Italy is the place to be as it makes its second appears on the list. This time, for it’s famous Vatican – home of the catholic church. As anyone who has visited before will know, the queues at St Peter’s Square are no joke.
However, to avoid the long queues, visitors can pre book VIP experience which includes breakfast at the Vatican and early access to both the Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel. Sounds like a no brainer.
6. New Orleans Cooking Class
Turns out food is very popular among the travel savvy, with another cookery class on the list. At number six on the Trip Advisor list is a lesson that takes place in the bustling city of New Orleans.
The class takes place in a converted warehouse and is led by a chef who demonstrates the fundamentals of classic Creole dishes. While you’re there you also get a lesson in the city’s rich history of food as well as endless delicious samples, of course.
7. Rotoura Maori Hangi Dinner in New Zealand
Here, visitors are taken on a tour in the Maori village of Tamaki located in Rotoura a city in North Island, New Zealand.
Expect a haka song and dance by a Rangiatea cultural group and a traditional hangi feast. Sounds like a right party!
8. Best of Niagra Falls Tour from Ontario
If you’re going to see the Niagra Falls, why not do it in style? This special tour includes a cruise boat trip to get you up close and personal with the falls as well as showing you the exhilarating rapids in the Niagra River.
Oh and if that wasn’t enough, visitors also get to stop at the Skylon Tower where you get to see the falls from an incredible sky view.
9. Vancouver to Victoria and Butchart Gardens
This tour allows you to see two cities in one day as it takes you from Vancouver to Victoria, Canada by both ferry and bus.
Once you arrive, visitors are given time to explore the beautiful capital of British Columbia before heading to Butchart Gardens which features 55 acres of beautiful floral gardens.
10. Wild Wicklow Tour from Dublin
Yep, it turns out one of the ten Trip Advisor travel wonders is right on our doorstep. Last but not least is the popular Wild Wicklow tour in the charming city of Dublin, Ireland. Here, a bus takes visitors through incredibly picturesque countryside and seaside towns before stopping at the Wicklow Mountains National Park.
You are then taken onto the glacial valley of Glendalough where there is a full tour of the ancient site including the Round Tower.
