This is the age when you officially start turning into your mum

A new poll has determined the age we all begin to turn into our mum – and many may find it surprisingly young. Research by Harley Street claims we begin the transformation at 33 years of age, while men begin turning into their fathers at 34.

The poll reported that at the age of 33, women begin to watch the same TV shows as their mother, take up similar hobbies and even use the same facial expressions.

The survey, which was conducted by Dr Julian De Silva, a Harley Street plastic surgeon, discovered that men, on the other hand, start to adopt habits such as turning off the light switches in unused rooms, putting on weight, and sharing political opinions. They even start listening to BBC Radio 2, just like their dad.

Men shared that they usually started to feel most like their dads when they became fathers themselves, too.

While many may be thrilled at the thought of being just like their mum, others may be dreading the transformation. For those, worry not, as 33 isn’t the definite age; while 52 per cent of the 2000 asked revealed they started to behave like their mother between the ages of 30 and 35, 26 per cent noticed the change at 35 to 40, 10 per cent at 40 to 50, and 7 per cent at over 50. A mere 5 per cent believed they started to notice their transformation while in their 20s.

Speaking about his findings, Dr Julian said: ‘We all turn into our parents at some point in our lives – and that is something to be celebrated. They are the most wonderful people in the world.’

He continued: ‘Becoming parents is the main trigger and lifestyle factors are also important.’

So if you find yourself cracking the same jokes as your mum, pulling the same faces when you’re annoyed or tuning in to Strictly Come Dancing and Pointless more than usual fear not; it’s happening to everyone!
