Premier Inn is about to start offering hotel rooms for £19 per night

Premier Inn’s parent company Whitbread has announced the launch of a new hotel concept which will offer guests the chance to book a no-frills hotel room for just £19 per night.

The first Zip by Premier Inn hotel is set to open in Cardiff in early 2019, followed by a second site in Southampton.

The rooms in each establishment will be less than half the size of a standard Premier Inn offering, measuring in 8.5 square metres. The basics – en suite power showers, 24-inch televisions, twin single beds that can be converted to a double – are included, but any extras up the price. There is no daily cleaning service, but this can be added for a fee of £5 a day; WiFi is free, but fast WiFi will also set you back £5 for 24 hours.

As for the famous Premier Inn breakfast? Zip hotels will have communal areas that serve hot or cold breakfasts for £3.95, and then turn into a bar in the evenings.

Alison Brittain, Whitbread chief executive, said Zip would let the company access a wider range of customers, including those who are ‘on a particularly tight budget but still expect and deserve the basics done brilliantly’.

The new hotels are designed for ‘the ultra-price-sensitive customer looking to zip in and out,’ she added.

Premier Inn’s managing director, Simon Jones, commented: ‘We have undertaken considerable research, including having had six Zip rooms on sale to customers for many months.’

‘It’s clear through the research that people want the basics done brilliantly, such as a comfy bed and a power shower, but they are happy to compromise on location or some extras if they are paying a fantastic price for their room.’

You can pre-book your stay at the Zip by Premier Inn Cardiff for 1st March 2019 onwards at now.
