Cast your mind back to September, when actress Katie Holmes stepped out in what was arguably the most iconic outfit of the year.
While hailing a cab in New York City, the star was pictured wearing an oatmeal-coloured cashmere cardigan, and beneath it, a coordinating bra. The ‘bradigan’, as it was dubbed, fast became the subject of sartorial analysis around the globe: so simple, so chic, yet so unexpected.
However, the off-duty look was not the easiest to replicate – even if the thought of wearing your bra as outerwear wasn’t somewhat intimidating, Katie’s matching set was from cult NY brand Khaite, where it retailed at $520 for the bra and $1,540 for the sweater. Not small change by any stretch of the imagination, even when it comes to cashmere.
But now high street hero Zara has come to the rescue of fashion fans everywhere. The store recreated the neutral twinset, albeit with a little more fabric and a much smaller price tag.
The wool-blend crop top is £15.99 and the button-up is £25.99, meaning you can get the same cool transeasonal look for just over £40. Both pieces are on the Zara website in sizes S to L, although unsurprisingly, most are awaiting a restock already.
When you eventually manage to place an order, style yours ala Katie with denim, mules and shades, or take inspiration from just some of the influencers who have already added the two-piece to their wardrobes, because there are plenty.
We predict this won’t be the last high street dupe we see for the piece, but all of the applause to Zara for kickstarting the more affordable take on the trend.
Now we just have to pray for the weather to warm up so we can wear ours without burying it under a coat – because it’s far too good to be saving until spring.
