Whether you’re someone who likes to go all out on Valentine’s Day or keep things low key, one thing that’s for sure is we’ll all be celebrating the ‘day of love’ at home this year, thanks to restaurants still being closed across the UK.
But that’s no reason to sigh, as there are plenty of ways to make the day special at home, starting with the Waitrose Valentine’s Day meal deal.
And it really is an excellent deal – for £20 you get a starter, a main, two sides and a dessert, plus the choice of a bottle of wine (including fizz) or a box of chocolates. With a deal this good, you’ll forget why you ever headed out to a restaurant before.
Dish options include a Heston from Waitrose Bloody Mary Prawn Cocktail for your starter, a rack of British grass- and forage-fed lamb with roasted garlic and rosemary butter for the main with a baby leaf salad and parmentier potatoes on the side, not forgetting Heston Blumenthal’s latest sweet creation for dessert – Espresso Martini Chocolate Tortes.
It looks like we’re all looking forward to a reason to celebrate and push the boat out – ‘Valentine’s Day’ searches on Waitrose.com are up over 100 per cent versus last year and ‘dinner for two’ searches have increased by 114 per cent since the end of December.
Whether you live with your partner, friends, family, gran or are going to have to connect with your nearest and dearest over Zoom, we need any excuse right now to bring a bit of joy and light into our lives, and celebrating Valentine’s Day (or even Galentine’s Day on the 13 February) is the perfect way to do just that.
Meanwhile, if you fancy having a go at cooking a meal from scratch for your loved one, steak is a classic go-to for a romantic dinner (sales of steak always increase by 20 per cent at Waitrose during the week of Valentine’s Day). If you’re nervous about how to nail the perfect steak, you can take part in the Waitrose Cookery School’s virtual class (£20) on the 13 or 14 February – they’ll teach you the basics of cooking the perfect steak, how to make a classic steak sauce and tips on resting and slicing.
The Waitrose Valentine’s Day meal deal will be available from 10 February in stores and online.
