There was a time when every 10-year-old girl thought the Spice Girls could do no wrong, but it turns out that Victoria Beckham’s daughter Harper was pretty unimpressed when she saw photos of some of the group’s outfits.
Harper’s disapproval came to light during a conversation between Victoria and Vogue Australia, where the former Spice Girl turned fashion designer discussed her style evolution.
Victoria said her daughter is ‘not one of these kids who are going out with a full face of make-up and a crop top.’
In fact, she recently said to Victoria: “Mummy, I’ve seen some pictures of you when you were in the Spice Girls and your skirts were just unacceptable. They were just too short.”
According to Victoria, her husband then agreed. ‘Then David piped up and said, “Absolutely, Harper! They really, really were”’ she recalled. ‘And she was actually quite disgusted at how short my skirts were. I said, “Are you never going to wear skirts like that?” She said, “Absolutely not.” We’ll see.’
During the interview, Victoria also discussed how living in different parts of the globe has influenced her fashion taste, including the stints in Miami that have led to a recent form-fitting collection, VB Body.
‘There’s definitely a less-is-more attitude to dressing there … literally,’ she said. ‘At first, I found it quite shocking and then I found it quite inspiring. The women there celebrate their bodies and their femininity. I realised that my midi-length pleated skirt and pussy-bow blouse were not quite appropriate for Miami. In fact, they would have probably carted me off to some sort of home if I would have gone out for the night dressed that way.’
Shame she auctioned off all those Hervé Leger bandage dresses from her WAG days eh?
