This royally-approved Cornish island is paying people to live and work there

Cornwall has quickly become one of the UK’s go-to staycation destinations during the pandemic and has been providing all the seaside goodness you could need while international travel is still largely off the table. And if you love a trip to Cornwall, you may be excited to hear that you can currently get paid to live and work there.

The remote island of Tresco, located in the Isles of Scilly, is home to just 150 people and is privately owned by the Dorrien-Smith family. It is a known holiday destination and even the royals love a visit (the Middleton’s went last year, and it was also frequented by Charles and Diana back in the day).

This summer, Tresco is looking to hire people to live and work in the area ahead of tourist season and as well as full pay, you’ll also be provided with free accommodation. Roles on offer include chefs, cleaners and front of house staff roles that are essential as the warmer weather and school holidays come around.

As well as your pay and accommodation, you’ll also get your travel to and from the island paid for, as well as discounts for friends and family and chopped prices at shops and restaurants you visit on Tresco while you live and work there.

‘Everyone has fantasised about fleeing to a remote island and escaping the hustle and bustle of normal life,’ said Nick Halliday, CEO of Tresco Estate of the opportunity. ‘With varied island jobs to choose from, now is the chance to turn that dream into a reality.’

There are currently six open vacancies on the official Tresco page, including one for a spa therapist and a kitchen porter. The easiest way to stay up to date with future vacancies is to sign up to updates, where you’ll be alerted via email when new opportunities go live.
