Cast your minds back 12 months or so, and you’ll remember that summer 2018 saw the arrival of one of Topshop’s most popular dresses ever – a cute polka dot pinafore that you could barely scroll through an Instagram feed without (pardon the pun) spotting.
The elegant style sold out through several restocks, and was subsequently reinvented in a variety of different colour ways and prints to keep up with the demand for its flattering fit. And now the news we’ve all been hoping for has emerged – there’s yet another version for 2019, and it might be the prettiest one to date.
Two new midi-length pinafores – one white, one black – have arrived on the Topshop website in sizes 6-16, this time with the addition of subtle lace panels, and a buckled belt around the waist.
The monochrome palette and relaxed fit make both pieces great wardrobe all-rounders – and if you’re not feeling brave enough to bare your arms and décolletage simulatenously, they’ll look just as chic with a roll neck or t-shirt layered underneath.
The only downside to this year’s pinafores? The price – while last summer’s hit dresses retailed at Topshop for between £49 and £65, depending on the print, today the garment will set you back £69 – not astronomical for a premium high-street, admittedly, but still a year-on-year increase nonetheless.
Either way, whether you loved last year’s designs or weren’t lucky enough to bag one of the dresses the first time around, there’s no doubt that the lace versions of the pinafore will leave stores just as quickly as their previous counterparts. So if you’re planning to shop them, we’d suggest you do it fast.
