If you weren’t aware of Topshop’s Austin dress last summer, where were you? The universally-flattering, ultra-feminine dress was seen everywhere last year, from the Instagram feeds of the biggest fashion influencers to summer weddings and even offices all over the UK, due to the multitude of bold, vibrant prints it came in and its universal, wear-anywhere appeal.
And now the British high street brand has relaunched it for this summer, with a slight twist. Dubbed the Willow, these new iterations echo the pretty, floaty, feminine silhouette of the Austin, with the same angel sleeves, flattering cut and floral patterns.
The Willow is available in three different versions – a bright mixed-pink floral midi; the same pattern in a vivid green colourway with a leg-baring mini length; and finally another midi length version in a soft pastel watercolour-style floral design.
While shopping for summer dresses might not be high on your priorities right now, come summer we’re going to need a wardrobe lift – and there’s no harm in a touch of retail therapy to see us through this confusing and scary time. Just remember to respect social distancing rules and give delivery drivers their space to be able to drop off your online shopping parcels safely.
With a deep plunging V-neckline, wide waistband, asymmetric skirt and side split, we predict this dress will be just as much of a sellout as the Austin, which sold 90 per cent of all online units within the first day it launched back in March 2019.
When it was restocked in five new prints, 50 per cent of the units were gone within the first week. In other words, the dress only launched last week so we’d hop to it fast if you like the look of any (or all three) of the versions of the Willow dress.
The two midi length versions were launched at a retail price of £45.99, but the price has already been slashed to £29.99, while the mini was originally £35.99 and is now an even more purse-friendly £24.99.
Proving just how versatile the dress is, it’s been styled with white cowboy-style boots, Converse trainers and strappy heeled sandals on the Topshop website, making it a truly reliable dress to see you through any occasion, from weddings to trips to the pub garden to picnics in the park to the office (when we eventually can, of course).
