Revealed: The top 10 UK staycation destinations for 2021

The UK is counting down the days until lockdown restrictions on travel are lifted so we can look forward to a summer holiday once again. However, new research has found that 84 per cent of Brits are actually planning to stick to the UK for their holidays this year, and revealed the top UK staycation destinations for 2021.

We should (fingers crossed) be able to embark on staycations again from 12 April, but it’s no surprise to see there’s already been a 300% surge in bookings for later in the year.

Travel company Holidaycottages.co.uk has shared its findings and revealed which UK destinations we are researching and booking the most, for when restrictions lift.

The results show that four in five Brits will be choosing to holiday closer to home this year, rather than travel overseas to another country. Insights suggest people are also keen to escape to the countryside in 2021 too, with Edinburgh being the only city featured in the top 10 destinations. Interesting!

Last year, London was the most visited staycation spot, but has slipped in popularity among staycationers. So, where are we heading to this year?

The top 10 UK staycation destinations for 2021

1. Cornwall (48 per cent)

Surprise, surprise. With its stunning coastline and renowned beaches, Cornwall has attracted the most visitors for a staycation this year.

2. Scottish Highlands (43 per cent)

Only slightly fewer of us are hoping to visit the Scottish Highlands for a holiday

3. Devon (43 per cent)

4. Cumbria/Lake District (41 per cent)

5. Yorkshire Dales (35 per cent)

6. Edinburgh (34 per cent)
