A former TK Maxx employee has revealed how to score the best bargains

TK Maxx is a bit of a marmite shop – there are some who love rifling through the shelves for hours, while others can’t face the hunt for bargains amongst so much stock. But what if we were to tell you that there’s a handy hack to spot the very best offerings in the store?

Speaking in an upcoming Channel 5 documentary, TK Maxx: How do they do it?, which will air this Sunday, former senior merchandiser Daniel said that you need to take a close look at the numbers on the labels to find the best bargains.

‘On any label, you can see a number’ he said. ‘The number that is really exciting to a customer is number two because that means it’s genuine stock that was sold at a higher price somewhere else.

Daniel revealed: ‘The main three codes are one, two, and seven.

‘One means produced for TK Maxx, two is ‘close out buy’ that is unsold from another brand, and seven is ‘packaway’ which means it’s been packed for a previous year, like Christmas crackers bought in January for the following year.’

TikTok has also become a good place to find out  behind-the-scenes secrets, particularly when it comes to shopping. As The Mirror reported, their are some great tips from a former employee of TK Maxx, who revealed the best time of day to shop for items, as well as how to pick things up for as little as 20p.

Their first tip came in regards to when to shop to get the best range of things. Somewhat unsurprisingly, they recommend getting to your local TK Maxx store as early as possible, as stock is put out in the mornings. ‘TK Maxx get deliveries every day apart from a Sunday and it’s usually in the morning,’ they began. ’Usually, they’ll have staff that start work at 6am and it’s their job to put all the stock out.’

Then when it comes to snagging the best bargains, the TikTok user had the best tips for how to save money. First, they recommend not bothering with big sale events, as ‘there’s always a sale and there’s usually a sale section,’ no matter what time of year it is.

In fact, they explain, the sale in January is no different, despite being promoted lots by the store. ‘They do big up January sales but they just change the colour of the sticker,’ they claim.

If you really want to get the most for your money, it’s all about the long game. According to the TikTok video creator, you should try to wait it out if you see something you want but want to get it cheaper.

‘Everything in the shop gets reduced every six weeks,’ they explain. ‘And if it’s there for 12 weeks, it’ll be reduced again until final clearance [which is when] everything goes down to like 20p. It’s ridiculous.’

In short, try and wait around six weeks if you can, then pounce. However, if you don’t want to miss out, the prices are usually fair game to begin with, so we wouldn’t blame you!
