H&M is well known for its designer collaborations, with previous partnerships including the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Versace, Giambattista Valli and many more, but 2020’s collaboration might just be the most exciting yet.
And that’s not because it’s the ‘biggest’ name the Swedish high street brand has collaborated with to date. In fact, the brand’s latest partnership is with an indie label, albeit a global one with a huge cult following.
The Vampire’s Wife launched in 2014, and has since become a firm favourite of fashion insiders, celebrities and royals alike – everyone from Kate Moss to Kate Middleton is a fan, and other famous wearers include Florence Welch, Cate Blanchett, Kylie Minogue and Daisy Lowe, to name a few. The brand is the brainchild of Susie Cave, former model and muse to Vivienne Westwood and wife of musician Nick Cave, of ‘Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’.
The Vampire’s Wife aesthetic is dark, glamorous, romantic, fierce, feminine and sexy, with more than a touch of mysticism. British Vogue quoted Kate Moss as describing Susie’s designs as ‘“Little House on the Prairie dresses” gone luxe’ and Florence Welch: ‘they make you look like you’re practising witchcraft in a very romantic cult’.
While a dress from the designer brand would normally set you back upwards of £1000, the upcoming The Vampire’s Wife x H&M collaboration means we can all get a slice of the truly lust-worthy style for a more affordable price.
Black lace and velvet dominate the collection for a moody, gothic vibe – all the better for a launch that falls so close to Halloween. Full of bold and feminine statement pieces, such as a black and silver lace mini dress and matching romantic silvery lace cape, there’s also a signature ‘street-sweeper’ (what Susie calls her floor-length maxi dresses) in black lace with a retro ruffled hem.
Accessories haven’t been forgotten either, with jewellery embellished with eye, cloud and vampire teeth iconography, as well as fingerless lace gloves and a playful detachable ruffle collar.
The Vampire’s Wife x H&M collection will be available online at hm.com and in selected stores from 22 October. Follow our lead and mark your calendars to avoid disappointment.
