For most of us, Mondays are a dreaded day, marking the end of the weekend and the start of a working week which, let’s face it, none of us are particularly thrilled about – especially when our alarms go off in the morning.
However, for Her Majesty the Queen, Mondays are an entirely different experience. In fact, it has been revealed that it is the day of the week where she is always presented with a gift.
According to HELLO!, residents at Buckingham Palace have revealed that every Monday, the Queen is gifted with a carefully selected posy from the gardens of the palace by the Gardens Manager. How sweet is that? It’s no secret that the Queen has a love of flowers so you can imagine how delightful the gifting, which has become a Monday tradition, must be for her. Especially as she is no stranger to gardening herself.
Back in 2017, it was reported that the Queen fell back in love with gardening after being inspired by a garden restoration project at Windsor. In fact, it has also revealed that she impressed many with her in-depth knowledge of plants during a tour at the Chelsea Flower Show with her husband Prince Philip that year.
Robert Hillier, chairman of Hillier Nurseries said at the time: ‘She has never shown her knowledge before. We have met many times but suddenly she is so interested in plants and planting… She obviously enjoys going to Chelsea, but in the past she has not been so animated. She has got really into gardening. It’s never too late!’
Her Majesty may love gardening but the royal staff certainly have it all covered at Buckingham Palace. It is believed that there are eight gardeners who maintain the beautiful space, as well as two or three additional part-time staff. With so many hands on deck, it’s no wonder it’s so immaculate!
