We haven’t been short of buzz-worthy TV shows to look forward to this year but the latest offering by Netflix seems to have everyone that little bit extra excited. The Politician is an upcoming dark comedy series coming to the streaming service and not only does it have a star-studded cast but the Ryan Murphy is behind it.
That’s right, fans of Glee, American Horror Story and last year’s hit short series Pose will be pleased to hear that the screenwriter, alongside Brad Falchuk (his co-writer on Glee), have created Netflix’s new series starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Pitch Perfect star Ben Platt.
The Politician has already got a trailer and the first season is set to drop on Netflix next month. So here’s everything you need to know about it…
What is it about?
The series, which has been described as a ‘dark comedy’ and ‘sly satire’, follows a rich student who is adamant on becoming the President of the United States.
The official synopsis on Netflix reads: ‘Payton Hobart (Ben Platt), a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, California, has known since age seven that he’s going to be President of the United States. But first he’ll have to navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School. To get elected Student Body President, secure a spot at Harvard, and stay on his singular path to success, Payton will have to outsmart his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality and carefully crafted image.’
Who is the cast?
While Tony Award winner Ben Platt takes the lead as Payton Hobart, Gwyneth Paltrow plays his mother, Georgia Hobart.
The series also stars Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch (who viewers will recognise from popular Netflix romcom The Set Up) and Bohemian Rhapsody’s Lucy Boynton.
When will it air?
The Politician will be released on Netflix on Friday September 27, so make sure you mark your calendars.
