Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want a celebrity best friend? You’d get to go to the best parties, red carpet award shows and Christmas and birthdays would always be a right treat. But while there are plenty of famous faces we’d love to befriend, which celebrity would you chose to be your best friend if it actually came down to it?
Well, according to a new survey, we Brits all have our eyes on one special lady: the one and only Dawn French. It turns out we as a nation adore the hilarious actress for her fun-loving personality and warm heart, so much so that we want to call her a friend.
The 61-year-old star, best known for playing the loveable Geraldine Granger in The Vicar of Dibley, came out as the top choice after a recent poll was conducted. The survey, carried out by Italian restaurant chain Prezzo, asked more than 2,000 people which celebrity they wished they were close friends with and 10 percent of the participants unanimously named, Dawn.
Commenting on the results, a spokesperson for Prezzo said: ‘It’s great to see Dawn French is the person we would most want as our best friend, but the thing that struck us most about the findings is that we do not see our true best friends nearly enough.’
The actress was closely followed by Hollywood heartthrob Tom Hardy, who placed second with nine percent of participants wanting him to be their best friend – we wonder why, eh? Though personally, we’d want something a little more than a friendship with him.
Comedian Peter Kay came in at third place, while Jennifer Saunders, Miranda Hart, Joanna Lumley and Strictly Come Dancing star Stacey Dooley all made it in the top 20 list too, proving just how much we Brits value a good sense of humour.
