The Last Letter From Your Lover is in cinemas now

Jojo Moyes fans, we have some very good news for you. Another of the author’s incredible books has been turned into a film and you can now go and watch it in cinemas!

Me Before You, the first of the stellar author’s books to be adapted for the big screen, was met with wide acclaim, so it’s no surprise Jojo’s canon of work has been dug into yet again for another movie adaptation: The Last Letter From Your Lover.

What’s the plot of The Last Letter From Your Lover?

Based on Jojo’s bestselling novel of the same name, it’s a dual narrative love story. Ellie, a journalist in present-day London, finds a series of letters that depict an illicit love affair in the French Riviera in the 1960s (you can already predict the nostalgic sun-soaked scenery and gorgeous 60s fashion) between Jennifer Stirling and Anthony O’Hare. Besotted with their story, Ellie decides to try to track down the couple to find out how their story ends.

The Last Letter From Your Lover

‘You witness a woman’s journey in how she chooses to live her life,’ Shailene Woodley (who plays Jennifer, more on that below) told Entertainment Weekly, speaking of her character. ‘You recognise the struggles that come with being a woman, specifically in that time era, making decisions for herself and choosing a path that perhaps isn’t the most well-worn, yet is the most fulfilling. There aren’t a lot of stories about women who do make decisions for themselves even though there are serious consequences and repercussions.’

And we now have a trailer to whet our appetite even further and by the looks of it, the film definitely has all the makings of a classic romance film – and we for one can’t wait.

Who’s in it?

Oscar-nominated Felicity Jones (Rogue OneThe Theory of EverythingLike Crazy) plays Ellie, with Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies, The Fault In Our Stars) cast as Jennifer, Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts) as her star-crossed lover Anthony and Joe Alwyn (The Favourite) as Jennifer’s husband, Laurence Stirling. Nabhaan Rizwan (1917) plays a newspaper archivist, Ellie’s friend and colleague who helps her in her quest to find the couple who’s letters she is so gripped by and Sex Education‘s Ncuti Gatwa also stars. The film is directed by Augustine Frizzell, who was also behind Euphoria.

When can we watch it?
