Cannabidiol (CBD) – a natural chemical compound found in hemp plants – has taken the beauty industry by storm over the last year or so. According to recent market research, CBD and hemp-based products will pull in around £8 million in revenues by 2024, representing a huge 10 per cent of the skincare category.
Not to be confused with the psychoactive ingredient delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is illegal, CBD has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory and soothing effect on the skin, making it ideal for acne-prone and sensitive skin types. Thanks to its antioxidant properties, it’s also recommended to diminish the likes of wrinkles, skin dullness and flushed, red tones.
Though the CBD craze is relatively new, The Body Shop’s founder Anita Roddick has been championing the use of hemp seed oil in skincare for years with the brand’s own Hemp range. And now, they’ve launched their own CBD range using natural-origin CBD, hemp seed oil and vegan squalene (a hard-working hydrator that helps prevent water loss).
The trio of CBD products are the Restoring Facial Oil, Replenishing Moisture Cream and Soothing Oil-Balm Cleansing Mask – each product suitable for all skin types but highly recommended for stressed out, dry complexions, as well as those experiencing blemishes, discomfort or dullness.
You can of course use them individually, but according to The Body Shop’s website: ‘They’re powerhouses on their own, but try the trio together, and you won’t look back’.
If you’re wondering whether you’re suffering from ‘stressed out skin’, The Body Shop specify: ‘We classify stressed skin as skin that experiences discomfort from dehydration, dryness, loss in luminosity and decline on skin’s overall appearance.’
We don’t know about you, but after months of wearing face coverings and being mostly cooped up indoors this year, our skin could definitely do with a de-stress.
