Pigs in blankets. Most families don’t consider their Christmas dinner to be complete without them.
Traditionally a chipolata sausage wrapped in a generous layer of bacon, supermarkets have been getting more and more creative with their offerings – this year, both Asda and Aldi have gone giant, announcing that they’d added footlong pigs in blankets to their respective festive ranges, with prices starting from just £2.99.
Now, however, Tesco has raised the bar even further, with their latest genius invention: pigs in duvets. Not only do these treats come with the usual layers of crispy bacon and juicy sausage, they’re also wrapped in a ‘duvet’ of flaky puff pastry.
Essentially, it’s a sausage roll, but with added bacon (hey, we told you it was good). Plus, to seal the deal, Tesco’s pigs in duvets will come with a pot of cranberry sauce for dipping – perfect if you like the tang of sweet and savoury flavoured in one bite.
Presented in a wreath shape a la the store’s campaign imagery, the pigs in duvets will make a perfect party centrepiece to wow your guests. But if your mouth is already watering, slow down a little, because you’ve got a while to wait before these porky delights – which are set to retail for £5 for 400g – arrive on shelves.
As they’re part of Tesco’s Christmas offering, pigs in duvets won’t be available to buy in stores or online until 12 November – but from what we’ve seen so far, they’ll certainly be worth the wait.
At the other end of the spectrum, if you’re also catering for guests who don’t eat meat, you also add their new vegan roll selection to your basket. The £2 box features a range of nine rolls in a mix of three tasty flavours: Moroccan spiced cauliflower, herby roasted butternut squash, and katsu curried vegetable.
