Sales of these Instagrammable velvet sofas are up 4,500 per cent

You might have noticed that plush velvet sofas have become a huge phenomenon in the world of interiors, popping up in chic bars, restaurants and, in some cases, even in our own homes.

Bloggers and interior accounts on social media have also been showing them a lot of love and now, one particular version of the trendy sofas have officially been crowned the most popular in the UK, with sales up a staggering 4,500 per cent in the last year alone, according to Mail Online.

Tivoli Love Seat, £849

The range of sofas in question are known as ‘love seats’ and are from online furniture retailer Swoon Editions. The designs have been so in demand that the company has been forced to create new designs for more stock.

However, the most in demand model has proved to be the ‘Tivoli’ mid-century love seat (pictured above), with ‘rose’ as the most requested hue.

Tulum Love Seat, £899

Prices for Swoon’s velvet love seats start at £749 and the sofas, which are made to order and available in a variety of different fabrics, are all named after a destination. This includes everything from the Berlin (£749) and the Dallas (£999), to the Porto (£849), while others are named after cities such as Seattle and Plymouth.

The Tivoli, which is priced at £699, boasts a classic mid-century shape characterised by clean lines and a firm cushioning. The Merano, on the other hand, has been dubbed one of the comfiest styles in the range with two large soft, feather-lined cushions at each end.

Swoon’s website has seen a big increase in searches for the love seats since 27 January and with Valentine’s day right around the corner, the company’s analytics predict searches will double next week.

‘We know that our customers’ homes come in all shapes and sizes and the love seat is that perfect ‘in between’ fit, a stylish solution when you need to maximise your space,’ said  Debbie Williamson, Co-Founder of Swoon.

‘A lot of our customers have searched for love seats on our website and our design team has been able to respond quickly to this demand, creating ten new and distinctive designs, which has contributed to the huge increase in sales that we’ve seen.’
