If you’re a coffee lover, chances are you spend a fair amount of time in your local Starbucks – and probably spend a fair amount of cash while you’re there as well. But now a new hack has come to light that will let you enjoy unlimited cups for just £1.30.
Now, before you get too excited, we’re not talking anything fancy or foamy, and certainly not anything containing the word Frappuccino. Fresh, filter coffee is the order of the day – just remember to bring your reusable cup.
The budgeting gurus at MoneySavingExpert, who first highlighted the thrifty trick, explained how a standard ‘tall’ filter coffee at Starbucks costs £1.55, but bringing an eco-friendly reusable coffee cup to drink it from will also earn you a discount of 25p.
This brings the price down to just £1.30 – and because of the chain’s policy of offering free refills on their filter coffee, you can return for another serving as many times as you like during your visit.
They even verified the method with a Starbucks spokesperson, who confirmed: ‘As long as you stay in the store, you can get free refills on your filter coffee. Once you leave the store, a new order would be required to continue the free refills.’
Of course, there’s only so much coffee the average person can drink in one sitting, so the offer does have its limits. Starbucks also doesn’t offer decaf filter coffee, so it’s not particularly advantageous for the caffeine-sensitive.
However, if you’re regularly dropping £3-4 (or more!) on a fancy cup with all of the trimmings, switching your order to filter coffee and making the most of the refill policy could end up saving you a tidy sum. Now, if only they’d bring the refill policy in on that muffin range, too…
