Here’s how you can recreate a Starbucks Frappuccino at home

Among the many, many things we’re missing during lockdown – from the trivial (who knew we could actually miss the gym?) to the sincere (Zoom chats with your grandparents just aren’t the same as the real deal) – something that sits somewhere in the middle of those is picking up our morning coffee on our way in to work.

In our eyes, the day doesn’t officially start until we’ve had our morning brew, but however hard we try, our own caffeine creations at home can never quite live up to the same quality those clever baristas manage to achieve.

While sitting and sipping in our favourite coffee shop is still off the cards for some time, there is a way you can recreate Starbucks’ Mocha Frappuccino at home. The recipe was posted on TikTok by foodie blogger @caughtsnackin and it’s been praised for being super similar to the real deal. As the weather warms up, iced coffees are where it’s at, so this couldn’t have come at a better time.

Homemade Starbucks Frappuccino recipe

Ice cubes
2 shots of espresso
1 cup of milk
1 tbsp chocolate syrup (plus extra for drizzling on top)
2 tsp granulated sugar
Whipped cream

  1. Add the ice cubes, espresso shots, milk, 1 tbsp chocolate sauce and sugar to a blender and whizz until perfectly mixed.
  2. Pour into a cup and top with whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
  3. Drink and enjoy!

It couldn’t be simpler to make and the comments on the video tutorial are full of praise for how good the drink is.

One person said: ‘As a Starbucks employee you did it amazing’, while others have offered their own tips to perfect the recipe: ‘Add more ice for authentic Starbucks frappe, as espresso shots almost melted the ice,’ said one. Another added: ‘Ok so I’m actually a barista and I recommend waiting until the end to add the ice because everything else melts it!’

Starbucks are reopening the doors to 150 of their UK locations, mainly drive-thrus and a few takeaway-only cafes (plus delivery services), on 14 May, so it shouldn’t be long until many of us can get hold of the real deal. Not everyone will be able to get to an open store however, so @caughtsnackin’s brilliant recipe is a welcome relief for coffee-addicts everywhere.

And for those non-caffeine drinkers, Starbucks recently shared a recipe for recreating their chocolate Frappuccino at home.

Following a similar method, use a blender to whizz up one cup of milk (or your fave dairy alternative), 2 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 tbsp sugar and two cups of ice. Pour in a glass, top with whipped cream, sip and enjoy!
