Call off the search for your next staycation because the 90s called and they’ve got the perfect place – if you’re a Spice Girls fan, that is. The original Union Jack bus from the Spice World movie is available to rent on Airbnb and it’s the ultimate pop star fantasy come to life.
Suzanne Godley, a self-professed ‘mega-fan’ of the iconic girl group and their 1997 film, first revealed that she’d overhauled the bus – turning it into a fabulous frenzy of millennial pink, animal print and signature ‘Girl Power’ touches – back in May, and put it up to rent around the band’s tour dates at Wembley.
Speaking to Press Association at the time, she explained: ‘The Spice Girls were my childhood obsession. My parents were subjected to my tone-deaf performances as Baby Spice, and I must have watched the Spice World movie hundreds of times. And while I have grown up over the years, I don’t think I’ve ever grown out of my love for them.’
‘When my boss mentioned that he was considering buying the Spice Bus I was desperate to be a part of its renovation,’ she continued.
‘We’ve worked hard over the past few months to turn the bus into a home, in keeping with its legacy, and I’m so excited to open it up to the public with the support of Airbnb. Being part of this project has been like a dream come true and I can’t wait to meet other Spice Girls fans through this experience.’
Now Suzanne, who lives on the Isle of Wight with her partner and two children, has brought the bus home with her, opening up more availability and offering more fans the chance to live their Spice-related dreams.
The transformed double-decker Spice Bus sleeps up to three guests, with two sharing a double bed and one on a single day bed.
‘The driver’s seat remains at the front of the bus – sadly no Meatloaf!’ the listing explains.
‘Towards the back of the bus there’s a spacious seating area with a table and three Union Jack cinema-style chairs for relaxing in front of the TV or listening to Wannabe on repeat on the old school CD player.’
The bus is currently parked overlooking a picturesque marina, with a bar, restaurant and small shop on site. There’s dates spanning August and September open right now – although with a makeover this good, we don’t imagine Suzanne will be stopping there.
