Have you ever dreamt of packing your bags and trading in the hustle and bustle of the city for a laid-back life of reading and relaxing by a sandy beach in the Maldives? Well, we might just have found a way for you to do that – and get paid while you’re at it.
A luxury resort in the Maldives is currently hiring for a ‘Barefoot Bookseller’ and the job description sounds incredibly dreamy.
Soneva Fushi, a 5-star resort in the Baa Atoll, teamed up with The Ultimate Library to launch the first pop-up bookshop in the Maldives last December. And after the success of its first season, the pop-up is set to reopen this October – only the resort is looking for someone to run it.
As stated on the website, the bookshop was opened ‘to reflect the stunning natural environment and intelligent luxury that Soneva Fushi provides.’
‘While most of us find that holidays are the only opportunity we get to read for pleasure, finding the perfect book that enhances your destination and opens your mind can be a challenge,’ it explains.
‘Previous Barefoot Booksellers have provided guests with unforgettable literary experiences from writer’s workshops to personal reading consultations. We are interested to see what new ideas you can bring to the role!’
So, what are they looking for in an ideal candidate? According to the resort, any applicant keen to be chose must a ‘team player’ with a passion for books. It is also crucial that you have excellent written and verbal English skills and a ‘lively’ tone of voice to write an entertaining blog that captures the ‘exhilarating life of a desert island bookseller.’
Additionally, the successful candidate must also be able host workshops and other forms of entertainment experiences for guests at the resort.
Soneva Fushi announced the vacancy via their Instagram page alongside an enticing picture of their resort and frankly, it’s enough to tempt anyone to drop everything and make the move.
The chosen candidate will have a month of pre-departure product training with the Ultimate Library team, before being flown out to the Maldives for a six-month placement role in mid-October, where they will run the bookshop.
So get your applications in while you can!
